How We Offer TRUE/REAL Posture Correction

Why focus on posture?

When it comes to getting posture correction right we (ABC™ practitioners) consider ourselves world leaders and have learned a thing or two by treating hundreds (perhaps thousands) over the years.

Getting your posture upright is our main focus here at Body Centric Wellness. The reason is that the state of your posture/structure and how well your body functions biomechanically overall are intimately related.

In short, the better your posture, the better your body works and the fewer health issues you have. This is true at any age – from birth till death.

The image above shows, over time, what occurs with posture correction done right. It is a journey known as ‘unwinding’. As you can see going from left to right the chap in the picture slowly becomes more and more upright and straight as his spine gradually unwinds and loosens. By the end he is relaxed, comfortable and standing upright without any effort from his muscles.

As a result of this the various systems and organs within the body including cardiovascular, circulatory, central nervous etc. are less taxed and are therefore better placed to function correctly and even redistribute the freed up energy and resources to heal damaged tissue.

What can be done to help?

Many people are realising the benefits (both visually and from a health perspective), of better posture and everyone seems to be an expert these days. You can even buy gadgets, belts and braces that promise to improve your posture too.

Upon researching what works and what doesn’t, it was found that the various gadgets and belts seemed to give some benefit initially but did not help in the long term. The common ways that professionals were trying to achieve posture correction was mostly with stretches and exercises to build up muscle strength and flexibility and to work on pulling and arching your body straight (bending backward). In the case of braces would simply fix you in a more upright position but this is simply restricting movement and not fixing the issue.

On the face of it, the stretching and strengthening of the back sounds like reasonable advice, except for a very basic fact of anatomy. If you have poor posture, it is not because you have weak muscles that make you fall into flexion (bending forward).

The cause is slippage of one vertebra (spinal bone) forward on another. When forward this bone can never be self-corrected by the body and needs external intervention i.e. someone to put it back where it should be. Bending backward will never fix this situation so exercising your back straight is not real correction (since you have to hold yourself up for the rest of your life). Such exercises merely fortify whatever compensation pattern you have developed. If anything this bending and arching back actually makes you WORSE overall as you will start to lever further forward other bones and create more bones out of place that cannot self-correct. (Please see our other post for more on compensations.)

The only true way of restoring your body’s posture is by focusing on what dictates it. The skeletal frame.

Can you fix it?

Advanced BioStructural Correction™ was specifically developed to do exactly this. The protocol identifies and corrects those offending bones that are causing the loss of mechanical leverage, making you fall forward. When this happens your body is placed under greater stress and has to work harder to keep this from happening, hence pain and degeneration.

Unlike other methods of bone manipulation however we only push bones back, where they should be. We NEVER push DOWN on your spine as a chiropractor would do. Unbeknown to them they are actually creating more forward bones by doing this, making the whole problem even worse.

By bringing those bones in the vertebra BACK into correct alignment we stop the collapsing. Once the bones are stacked together correctly you restore mechanical leverage and you straighten up all by yourself without any effort required.

This is TRUE POSTURE CORRECTION.

To have to arch yourself straight or wear silly devices for the rest of your life is not a solution. Posture correction done right results in an inherently upright and stable body – no exercises or gadgets needed!

This may sound odd to some people who have been doing posture exercises but it is basic biomechanics and we see posture improvements 99% of the time with just one treatment.

The reason it can take time to completely get someone upright again is that our posture worsens hundreds of times over the course of our whole lives through everyday activities, trauma, misuse, sports, hobbies, furniture, our jobs, and many other physical injuries. Reversing this does not occur overnight but the results over time with repeated treatments are amazing.

Think of it this way; for the average adult we see in their 30’s, it took 30 or so years for you to get in your current poor state. Faced with 3 or so years of treatment to get right again is not that long in comparison.

Conclusion? Just like our mantra; better posture, better health

Most people are used to their bodies collapsing forward and the stress and feeling of heaviness that goes along with it. If anything they won’t even realise that they are collapsing forward because it all happens so gradually over their entire life.

You don’t notice the wear on the soles of your shoes with every step you take until much later. Only when they are completely worn and you start to slip do you realise. Similarly, our body will ‘slip’ when it can no longer maintain a compromised state.

When you have posture correction done right, your body will feel weightless – since it returns to perfect balance.

No other method can replicate this feeling and over time muscles and soft tissues relax and become stronger. Bone density increases, your breathing improves, balance and mobility also improve, you even sleep better and more.
